I am very honored to welcome you in Zwolle for the two day symposium on reflux disease and diaphragmatic hernia. Over the last ten years management of reflux disease and diaphragmatic hernia has changed considerably. New diagnostic en therapeutic strategies have been developed. This symposium will bring you up-to-date on the latest developments and current guidelines by national and international experts.
It is with great pleasure and pride that we have found three international experts to come to Zwolle to share their knowledge with the Dutch medical community. Professor David Watson is a world leading expert on antireflux surgery from Adelaide, Australia. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles on the subject and more than 15 randomized trials. He has trained many surgeons from all continents in antireflux surgery. Professor Alyn Morice is the undisputed expert on chronic cough in Europe and author of the ERS guidelines on this topic. Sean Woodcock is a bariatric surgeon form Newcastle UK. He is a council member of both British Obesity and Metabolic Surgical Society (BOMSS) and Association of laparoscopic surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ALSGBI), He is the chairman of the BOMSS teaching, education and research committee. The congress faculty is completed by opinion-leading speakers from different national institutions.
Thursday the 17th of November we will address reflux disease from different point of views: the family doctor, the gastro-enterologist, the pulmonologist , the ENT specialist and the gastrointestinal surgeon. All speakers will present a state-of-the art lecture of 20 minutes followed by 10 minutes of discussion. On Friday the 18th we will focus on technical surgical aspects with “How I do it” presentations from national and international experts followed by video sessions with 3 minute videos on specific aspects followed by a 4 minute discussion. Participants are encouraged to submit interesting cases from their practice.
