The devastating situation in Syria, causing many to flee their country in search for a safer place is resulting in a major refugee crisis in European countries. In many EU countries health facilities are under strain. During this symposium the speakers will take you through the history of refugee care in the Netherlands and will discuss the need of an adequate response and research into the health problems the refugees are facing.

By the end of 2015 65,3 million people left their homes in effort to flee war and violence. Never has the world faced this many refugees. The devastating situation in Syria, causing 4,9 million people to flee their country in search for a safer place is resulting in a major refugee crisis in European countries. In many EU countries health facilities are under strain.

In light of these issues Health[e]Foundation and AIGHD are proud to announce the symposium ‘Refugee Care’ on the 27th of September in the AMC Amsterdam. During this symposium four speakers will take you through the history of refugee care in the Netherlands and will discuss the need of an adequate response and research into the health problems the refugees are facing.

Objectives:

  • Identify the main mental health and psychosocial challenges affecting refugees.
  • Identify the main infectious diseases and its challenges affecting refugees.
  • To recognize the needed care and provide a safe new start for children and youngsters traveling from an armed conflict zone.
  • Take into account linguistic, religious and cultural aspects to better assess the situation of refugees.
  • Recognize the need of the development of a multidisciplinary scientific and culturally sensitive interventions to provide proper and durable care for refugees.
